I would like to start with my impressions of the test. I thought the multiple choice was a bit harder than expected, but I thought the essays were not too difficult. Having said that, I think we should have done a bit more review on the essays near the time of the test, and I think we should have written maybe one more synthesis essay. I say that because I know the synthesis essay was a weakness of mine, and I may have needed another try to learn how to write it more effectively. My suggestion about reviewing for the essays comes from the rhetorical analysis essay. I thought reading and annotating two more texts right before the test was good, but I would’ve liked a longer discussion about possible rhetorical strategies and devices to talk about in the essays. One last suggestion that may or may not be necessary would be taking one of the more difficult multiple choice tests and discussing each question just once during the year to have an idea what the hardest test could look like. Despite all of these suggestions, I felt prepared for the test and thought it went well. I would also like to mention that I really appreciate this blog post because I strongly believe in student evaluation of teacher effectiveness. So thank you for that opportunity.
