This year 3rd hour English has always been
something to look forward to, whether it was the course or the people in the
class, I think that you did really well in creating an environment in which all
of us are comfortable speaking our minds. Conversations ranged anywhere from
what the test was going to be like to education policy and upcoming movies.
Socratic seminars were awesome. I felt like the class was really efficient,
oftentimes many teachers deviate and forget that part of the course is to
prepare us for the test. The timed writings, although mentally brutal some
days, really helped me improve and grow as a writer. It allowed me to think
creatively and on the spot; I also got to implement more of my voice into my
writing because you taught me to get away from the standard five paragraph
format. The peer review was effective for me as well because not only did it
allow me to see good writing and develop a trained eye on reading papers but it
offered multiple perspectives which can be lost in straight forward “traditional”
grading. That being said, I do wish that we reviewed some of the vocabulary
from first semester in the later half of second semester because I remember
struggling with some questions on the test just because I did not understand
the vocabulary used. I do wish we did more multiple choice practice tests and
spent more time on those too. Overall the class was efficient with its time
usage and effective in teaching the material.
