Prompt 2: Why does Aquaman seem to get no respect? Do you think this is warranted? Why/why not?
Response:
Aquaman is arguably the most underrated of the famous superheros, despite being one of the original Justice League members and the king of all the oceans (the majority of the earth's surface area). I think this is partially due to his costume (I'll admit, it's a pair of tights and an orange mesh shirt), the fact that there have been few major media releases including him, causing the average person to know little about him, and the terribly lame way he was presented in the Super Friends show.
The King of Atlantis deserves so much for credit than he is given. For starters, he is the King of Atlantis and all of the oceans. He rules around three fourths of the globe and could probably take over the rest with an army of sea creatures if he chose to (both Metropolis and Gotham are coastal cities, after all). There are many iterations of Aquaman and most of them paint him in a very favorable light. In Injustice: Gods Among Us, Aquaman is as arrogant and commanding as someone who presides over he majority of the world would be, and punishes those who oppose him with impunity. In the opening of the Justice League show, he looks like an aquatic Thor (with Viking beard to match), cuts off his own hand and replaces it with a golden hook to save his son.
I think that all it would take for Aquaman to finally attain the level of public adoration that he rightfully deserves would be a blockbuster movie in the vein of the Dark Knight films showcasing his terrible power.
