Assignment 22: Fictional Character, Fictional Life- Samantha McGehee

If I could be any fictional character, my initial thought would be to Tom Hansen from 500 Days of Summer. I would like to be Tom because I think Tom is an average person, who has an average life and an average experience with love and his job but yet through cinema he is made out to be a triumphant hero extraordinaire. Tom is a romantic and believes in love and first sight and all that jazz. He meets Summer, who he falls head over heels in love with when they first bond over The Smiths (who doesn't? Am I right?) But unlike Tom, Summer doesn't believe in all that love stuff. They have fun but Tom gets his heart broken. After throwing a huge melodramatic fit and throwing some plates, he gets his life together and aspires to be the great architect he wants to be. Eventually, he is able to see why Summer wasn't right for him and accepts that Summer is engaged and she admits to him all that love stuff he believes is true, but only with the right person. Tom goes on a job interview to be his life long dream of an architect and meets Autumn (Summer and Autumn. Wonder which is right for him... hmmm) I like Tom because he overcomes what everybody struggles with, which is having a positive outlook on life and love no matter what and aspiring to be the best version of himself and not forcing love. Go Tom.
