Right now in the center of the milky way - Jack Phillips
Most people don't know this, but in the middle of our very own galaxy there is a supermassive black hole. Right now it is engulfing hundreds of thousands of tons of matter every second. And while it may sound like this supermassive black hole is a detriment to our galaxy and will eventually tear it apart, it actually helps our galaxy grow. Because even though right now it is consuming the mass of our earth every second, it is adding 200x that mass to the mass of our galaxy. Right now, scientists don't know why there is such a strong correlation to the mass of a galaxy and the black hole in the center, but no matter where in the universe you are, whatever galaxy you are in, the black hole at the center is exactly .5% the mass of your galaxy. And right now scientists are working to figure this out, and coming one step closer to uncovering this piece of our cosmic puzzle.
