Assignment 7: on this date

I'm writing about October 12 because a very big event took place. This was the day Elbert Ainstein informed Franklin Delano Roosevelt, about the possibility of the need for atomic weapons. On going research about the nature of the atom was going on prior to this moment. It began when Ernest Rutherford discovered the proton accidently. He was just messing around with random supplies when suddenly he transmuted nitrogen into oxygen. He was left with a proton and he took a selfie with it and posted it on Instagram. Then more interest accumulated on the subject of atomic particles. Like a ball of glue rolling down a sloping platform covered in sprinkles, research accumulated and major discoveries came, like the neutron, fission, and fusion. Einstien realized the importance of this and alerted FDR. FDR then set into motion a plan to delve further into the research of atomic weaponry. This allowed the United States to become the first country with nuclear weapons and put an end to World War II. Thus, this is an important enough day to be considered a  holiday to have a mid fall-winter break for.
