Do sweet potatoes have sugar in them? and other "adventures"

Assignment 6

Prompts:
1- Do sweet potatoes (yams) have sugar in them? I was pondering this question the other day, so investigate this strange vegetable's sweetness and describe what makes it unique compared to other common vegetables.

2- How secure are any of our beliefs? In any new scientific theory there are many possible beliefs that can be challenged other than just the previous theory. For example, when a new theory challenges an old one, should we question the original theory or one of the many beliefs, observation or other theories that contributes to us believing in the new theory? What can we really believe?

3- Are libraries relevant in modern society? Do they benefit the common good of a community, or are they a waste of tax payer's dollars in a world where many resources can be found easily online?

Response to the 3rd prompt:
I think that public libraries still have relevance and cultural significance in modern society.  By being open to anyone, they represent the ideas of our country: they democratize education.  One could make the argument that websites like Wikipedia do the same thing, but libraries don't require a computer to access; in fact they allow people who don't have computers to use them as a service of the library.  Another benefit of the library is that it offers a safe, quiet space for people to do what they want, which can be a benefit to anyone looking to learn anything.  Finally, public libraries act as a space for many public events that can facilitate learning and help people out.  The internet may be an unlimited source of information, but it doesn't provide a physical space for community like a library does.
