On October 3rd in the year 1981 the famous footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic was born. This might not be the most influential thing to happen on October 3rd, but it is my favorite because Zlatan is one of the most interesting characters I have ever seen. He was born in Malmo Sweeden, and because of his size, strength, and skill, he quickly became the best footballer in all of Sweeden, playing for their best team at the age of 16. His quick and early rise to fame may have made him a bit full of himself. If you have never seen a Zlatan interview, I highly suggest it. Between his exceeding cockiness and constantly referring to himself in the third person, he is so funny. My favorite Zlatan quote is by far his response to a reporter who asked what he had gotten his Swedish supermodel wife for her birthday, "Why would I get her anything? She already has Zlatan." He has also written a book about himself called I am Zlatan. While it is clearly not a best seller, some of the excerpts I have read are quite funny. All of that aside he is one of the best players in the world, and has managed to overcome many obstacles, although he has created most of those obstacles, on his way to becoming one of the highest paid athletes in the world. Some of his plays are so unbelievable that you have to watch them twice to be sure you saw it right. Like his goal against England where he scored from over 30 yards out off of a bicycle kick. I could talk on and on about Zlatan and what he has done over the years, but I will end with one of his redeeming facts. Despite his loud and cocky public persona, he actually quietly donates millions of dollars to various charities in Sweeden, and is one of footballs most interesting characters.
