On This Date- Mark O'Brien

On October 4th, 1957 something miraculous occurred.  The Soviet Union made a scientific bound forward by launching a satellite into space.  The one hundred and eighty four pound satellite was named Sputnik, and sent radio signals back to Russian scientists for 21 days.  This was awesome!!  This event opened a whole new world to the human race, space, or as others know it "the last frontier."  The launch of Sputnik had a HUGE impact on the world.  The U.S. was now scrambling to get something in space, and beat Russia to the first man on the moon.  Many thought it showed who was more powerful at the time.  This effected many peoples lives including mine.  My Grandparents lives would have been different, and they may not have had my mom.  Which then if that happened I wouldn't be here either.  I definitely appreciate this event.  It was another huge technological leap forward for mankind, and it greatly effects our lives.  Although it gave power to a country that now has the capability to blow up the entire world, and has a terrifying leader, it was an advancement that changed the world.
