Prompt 1- What is something that you can remember as clearly as if it were yesterday (going at least 2 years back)? What do you think makes it so memorable? What part do you remember the best? Is this memory important to you or important in creating who you are now?
Prompt 2- If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you? (Pretend that you could fully understand the language and culture in a day.) Why would you want to live there? What about that place attracts you? What would you do there? What would your life be like?
Prompt 3- Has there been a time when you felt out of place culturally? It could be feeling different from another part of town to a different city or state or a different country. Describe those moments. How did you deal with those differences?
Prompt 3:
I definitely feel that way around other Koreans who were born and raised in South Korea. I can't speak the language as well as they do or understand their idioms or their cultural tics. I don't know how to live in South Korea successfully or how to go a day without offending someone with my cultural ignorance. When I'm placed into a position where I have to be around other Koreans, I usually wait for someone else to do something and then copy what they do. During holiday celebrations with a giant group of Koreans, I have to take time to adjust to the situations and try to think of how I'm supposed to greet, speak with, address with people, eat, excuse myself and whatnot. I tend not to speak a lot in front of Koreans because I don't know if I'm saying it right or if it's something that's considered rude to them. Fitting in takes work. To do this, I have to keep an open mind to what they consider okay and not okay and just follow suit.
