Assignment 11: Do you know your neighbor?- Samantha McGehee

Before this year, I had never had any classes with the infamous Weiran. In all honesty, I was slightly intimidated sitting beside her. All I knew about her was that she swam, was incredibly smart and popular. But Weiran is also extremely kind. She doesn't see herself as better than others, she never withholds credit where its due in order to make herself look better. She is also very funny, it is a different sense of humor, one that is subtle but nonetheless hilarious. The one thing that stuck out about Weiran was how much she loves her friends. She is constantly having conversations with Jamie, Rena, Charlie, Sloan. She is engaged and caring towards all of them and its obvious she thinks the world of them. That quality stuck out to me because finding a loyal friend can sometimes be difficult and all of them have one in Weiran. I have had some heart to hearts with Weiran just sitting in English and she has a very unique, genuine perspective. She understands how the world works, and what she wishes it would be. She has the unique ability to voice her opinion without shutting others down, and she does so with a confidence that is convincing and interesting.
Weiran loves to box, run and swim, needless to say she is athletic. She also works at Chick-fil-a and I have seen her in action working the lemonade machine. I would say Weiran is the color red, because she is very warm and vibrant but also calm. In five years, I see Weiran kicking butt and taking names, and being successful in whatever she chooses to do, and continuing to be a bright spot in the lives of others. I am very grateful for being her neighbor and having the opportunity to get to know her.
