Assignment 5: Walt_the_salt vs. TV - Walt Finch

A lot of people watch the Emmy's.  People get excited about it.  This is not something that can also be said about the awarding of the Nobel Prizes.  Some people do, but the majority do not.  Is this a bad thing? I don't believe so.

The Nobel Prizes are generally awarded to people for things that are so advanced, that the normal person has never heard of it.  Or they are awarded for good deeds, but many of these times those deeds have not touched the main stream masses of America.  So people are not invested in the people that are being considered for the awards, and therefore don't really care about who wins it.

On the other hand almost everyone in America watches TV.  Everybody has their favorite show, something they have invested a lot of time into watching.  We want to feel like that time was well spent, and therefore want our show to win the award.  It's almost like winning the award yourself, because you have invested so much time into it.  People feel like they are a part of something bigger than themselves.

The same can not be said about the Nobel Peace Prize.  Sure they are great accomplishments, but people aren't invested in them.  What does this say about our society? Maybe just that we spend a little to much time watching TV, if we feel like we've won if our favorite show wins, but I don't know if that's completely bad.  TV is after all a good means of entertainment.
