Assignment 14:Flying Turkeys- Samantha McGehee

Thanksgiving is my favorite winter season holiday. Why? Well, food. I really love Thanksgiving food. I like it more than Christmas because receiving presents is awkward and we only make appetizer foods for Christmas which I personally think is a horrible idea but I seem to be the only one in my family that agrees. Thanksgiving is a big ordeal for my family. On both sides of my family, Thanksgiving usually involves around 30 people. We just get together, cook and eat and watch football and catch up on life. I don't particularly have a favorite Thanksgiving memory, so, I will just talk about the most recent one with my mom's side of the family. Here are the highlights of the night. We arrived and weren't last (you never want to be the last one to arrive in my family because you get crap for it until the next holiday event) and then my Aunt Sandy tried to teach me how to make her famous gravy (my gravy still sucks), I spent time with my Uncle Bob who is battling stage four cancer and he tried to convince my mom to get me a dog and a riffle (neither of those will happen, but it was a valiant effort) and then I fought my cousin's boyfriend for the last piece of my mom's delicious pumpkin roll, which is the most popular dish at Thanksgiving ( I won, of course). This Thanksgiving was bittersweet because it was the first Thanksgiving without my granny and the first with my Uncle having cancer, but it also made everyone realize how blessed we are to have an amazing family, so needless to say, it was a very thankful Thanksgiving.
