Assignment 12 (Pencils) - Charlie Grimes
I am one of the many pencils belonging to Charlie Grimes. I begin my day around 8:00 AM, as I am taken out of my original box and brought to Henry Clay High School. For the first two to three classes of the day, Charlie keeps track of me and uses me for any notes, tests, or quizzes that he may have. Upon hearing the bell signifying the end of either 2nd or 3rd hour, I lay motionless, waiting for Charlie to pick me up and take me to the next class. Unfortunately, this rarely happens. Too many times, my brethren and I have been left on the cold, unforgiving floors of these classrooms, forgotten by the one who used to grip us so tightly. The events that follow are very unpredictable. I have heard legends of my fellow pencils being left in the corners of classrooms for multiple years, and others who were picked up by others and moved on to a better, more secure life. Regardless, it is apparent to me and all of my fellow pencils that Mr. Grimes shows a distinct lack of respect for our kind, and we will stand for it no longer.
