On October 9th, 1965 Beatles'
"Yesterday" single goes #1 & stays #1 for 4 weeks. "Yesterday"
is a song recorded by the Beatles for their 1965 album “Help!” It remains
popular today with more than 2,200 cover versions, and is one of the most
covered songs in the history of recorded music. I love this song and apparently
so does BBC Radio 2 who voted it the best song of the century in 1999. In the
year I was born, 1997, the song was inducted into the Grammy hall of fame. "Yesterday"
is a melancholy acoustic guitar ballad about the break-up of a relationship. McCartney
composed the entire melody in a dream one night in his room at the Wimpole
Street home of his then girlfriend Jane Asher and her family. The lyrics are simple
and beautiful: Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away. Now it looks as
though they're here to stay. Oh, I believe in yesterday. Suddenly I'm not half
the man I used to be. There's a shadow hanging over me. Oh, yesterday came
suddenly. Why she had to go? I don't know, she wouldn't say. I said something
wrong. Now I long for yesterday. Yesterday love was such an easy game to play. Now
I need a place to hide away. Oh, I believe in yesterday. Why she had to go? I
don't know, she wouldn't say. I said something wrong. Now I long for yesterday.
Yesterday love was such an easy game to play. Now I need a place to hide away. Oh,
I believe in yesterday...
