Assignment 9: Sam Clay
I believe that there is a time for war. However, I think that these occasions are rare, and that the problems that could lead to war should always be dealt with in a peaceful way first. If this way of dealing with the problem is ineffective, war can become an option. An example is World War II. The problem of the Nazi invasion of much of Europe and their cruel practices towards those they considered enemies could not be dealt with without military intervention. An earlier example is the Civil War, which was necessary to keep the United States a unified country. I believe that these are rare occasions in which it is a country's responsibility to go to war. I feel that there are many alternatives to war in most cases. Talking with other nations about an issue to come up with a peaceful solution is one way in which war could be avoided. Also, avoiding trade to hurt a nation that another nation disagrees with could be an alternative. Overall, I believe that war is not usually the correct path to solving a dispute, and only sometimes becomes necessary.
