On this date, October 1st, in 1908, Ford first put the Model T car on the market at the price of 825 US dollars. This car was extremely affordable, and changed the world. It did this by opening up travel to the middle class, at this affordable price. Now towns could be bigger, because people could travel in. America became connected, because people could more easily travel city to city.
This was all made possible by the use of the assembly line by the Ford Motor Company. Because there were not many roads in the nation, the Model T was almost like a tractor car hybrid. It had big durable wheels that allowed it to traverse fields, creeks, and go up steep hills. It's engine was also very good, so was commonly used in home made airplanes. People used the Model T for a wide variety of activities and jobs. One minister used it for a mobile church, complete with an organ on the back. It could also be converted into a conveyor or a water pump or an electrical generator.
