Assignment 13- Aislinn Langley

There is much that can be said on the matter of gun control. Those in favor of unrestricted gun ownership make the case that the American people have the constitutional right to arm themselves, whether for hunting, defense, or recreation. Opponents of this freedom would have the American people made defenseless in a misguided effort to protect them.

They claim that the second amendment is now "an anachronism" and that "it bequeaths the rights to bear arms under the assumption that guns are needed by the people to form a militia with which to defend their liberty." Clearly such individuals don't understand that gun-owners are already a part of the world's largest militia. The NRA actually doubles as a continental militia prepared to defend Americans against the federal government at a moment's notice.

Proponents of gun control often say that the children and citizens of this nation would be more safe if automatic weapons and military-grade guns were kept from the public. This is not so. Any real American can tell you that the only way to be truly safe is to own a gun. And the bigger your gun, the safer you are.

Thus, the obvious way to solve the issue of guns and the safety of Americans is to provide every citizen with a gun. Children can be started off on smaller guns, later graduating to sawed off shotguns and automatic rifles. The weapons and ammunition industries will boom, so the nation will also prosper economically.

So think about an attempted  shooting now. Instead of harming countless people, the perpetrator would be taken care of before even walking in the door. The crime rates would drop dramatically, since people can all suddenly defend themselves efficiently, and the country would become safer almost instantly.

When you get down to it, it's really all about equality. Right now there may be gun issues because some people are empowered and some are defenseless. The only way to protect everyone from guns, is to give everyone guns.

This is America; guns are a part of our history and culture. We have best country in the world, and part of the reason is the fact that we're built on life, liberty, and the pursuit of moving targets.
