Flying Turkeys- Jamie Smith

Thanksgiving in my life usually involves packing up for the weekend and driving to Maryland, New Jersey, Chicago, or any of the other many places my family has spread itself out over the country. We arrive and there is nonstop movement and activity from the moment we get there. This year was Chicago- where my cousins live. Every day was a flurry of hockey games, dance practices, shopping, and much more. I really enjoy getting to see my family, but sometimes I wish we could just stay home and rest for a little while. There is very little sleep involved in a house with a five-year old, a seven-year old, and a nine-year old.

The most memorable event from Thanksgiving happened to come this year. I was at my cousin’s hockey game and was playing with my five-year old cousin, Jori. Out of nowhere she head-butted me in the nose, resulting in a lot of blood, and most likely a minor concussion, given that I could not sit up for more the five minutes because of the pain in my head this morning. I’m still praying its not a concussion. Despite this event, Thanksgiving continues to be one of my favorite holidays.
