Lucas Soard, Assignment 13- Changes!

Crime is, has, and always will be a problem.  Americans have imprisoned about 2.3 million people, how do we control this population? If we put all of our prisoners in one area, it would be the 4th most populous city in the country, coming in ahead of places like Philadelphia, Dallas, and barely edging out Houston.

We spend billions caring for these people every year, but why? These people have had a chance, and have lost the right to live in society. After viewing such classic films such as “Escape from New York” and “Escape from LA” I say we take an approach similar to that of the movies. We empty a large city, and throw our criminals into it, and keep them separated from our civilized society. They can govern themselves and live however they choose, just as long as they stay away from real society.  Houston is a large city, but has rural surroundings. The criminals could feed themselves with the few surrounding areas we give them. Plus, Houston is arguably the fattest city in the country, it’s not like anyone actually wants to live in that place.
